three things/ home decor

Adair has been helping me dream up what I want the spaces in my new home to feel like. (She is actually really good at it. If you need help- she is your girl!! She has a great eye for what works and what doesn’t!)

We’ve made some decisions and have more to make, but the process is so fun!

But through all this looking on the internet, I have found some super cute elements that you can add to your home decor.

1. Floor Poufs.

Yes, this is a real thing. A pouf and I am in love. It is the chic, cooler, and wiser sister of the bean bag.

I found these two at West Elm (one of my favorite stores). I love this modern print and the more vintage and eclectic print as well.

2. Brass Nesting Bowls.

Dwell Studio has these beautiful brass bowls. What a statement these would make in your house! It would effortlessly dress up any room in an instant.

3. Maps.

I love the idea of decorating your walls with maps. Especially this cool, vintage one from Black List Studio Prints. Maps are a little bit pricey, but I think it is worth it for design element that you would get out of it. Plus, it keeps you dreaming daily of the travels that you might have in the future.

I LOVE to hear what other people’s design style and special tricks for decorating a home are. Do you have any good tips or are loving something right now? Let us know! We’d love to hear!

XO, M.

Three Things/ Picnic.

I love picnics and have been wanting to plan one sometime soon. I am a wimp- so it has to get a little warmer here in Nashville. It needs to consistently be around 68 degrees for more than 24 hours.

There really is nothing better than lounging on a comfy blanket, relaxing, and sipping on some sweet tea with lemon. Is there anything better? Probably not, unless said picnic was at the beach.

Do you like picnics? What is your favorite thing about picnic days? What is your favorite thing to bring?

1. The blanket.

I am in love with these organic blankets.

and these fun prints, especially the seagulls.

2. The basket.

This basket is so vintage and romantic and it obviously holds the yummiest foods. (This site actually has some really yummy picnic menus and recipes- definitely worth a try!)

3. The dress.

You obviously have to be stylish and comfy while relaxing at the picnic and ModCloth has some great options. Any of these three would be perfect.

The Strawberry Sundae Dress

The Aye, Aye Cutie Dress

The Sunlight Up My Life Dress

I hope this has inspired you to get out and have a picnic of your own. XO-M.

a list.

We LOVE making lists.

Some people don’t, but those people are weird. (if you are a person that doesn’t like making lists, i’m sure that you aren’t one of the weird ones.)

I have a notebook that I carry around with me almost always. It has notes in it from EVERYTHING and any kind of list that you can think of. You can pretty much see my life in that notebook. We love lists so much that we make lists of our favorite things here on the blog.

But, we have found something that is pretty awesome. Something that is pretty 21st century. There are two programs out there that we LOVE that were created for list-makers just like you and the two of us.

Our favorite one is called TuexDuex. It is incredible. I even have the app for my iphone- I love it that much.

Our other favorite is called Wunderlist. They also have an app for the iphone as well and it is free!

They are both pretty great tools to keep you organized, focused, and they keep your list-loving-self satisfied.

What do you use to keep organized? Just a pen a paper? Or do you use a program like these?

Let us know what your preferred list-making tools are!!

TGIF and Happy Weekend, M & A.

Weekend.

This weekend was pretty low key for us here in Nashville. And that’s just how we like it.

We went on a date to one of our favorite local restaurants, Tin Angel. (They are one of the local restaurants participating in Nashville Originals week– you should check them out!)

We went to a basketball game.

We ate some yummy breakfast.

We drove around town.

We snuggled up on the couch with some hot tea and good books.

And ate pizza (Mellow Mushroom, of course!) and watched some football with friends.

Hope that you had a good weekend as well.

Happy Tuesday. XO, Mary

three things.

There are just a few thing that have caught my attention this week.

#1 This book.

I am now hooked. The first few chapters are BRUTAL and make you wonder why all these people are making such a big fuss about this book and then Larsson introduced you to Lisbeth Salander and then you read page 101 and you know this is going to be an incredible series.

#2- This T.V. series.

I talk a lot about TV because I watch a lot of TV. I love TV. (Doesn’t everybody?!?!?) We don’t even have cable, but I still LOVE TV. And this Masterpiece Classic Theater series reinforces that love. Adair and my whole family were tried and true fans of this series from the beginning. Jeremy and I are recent fans, we actually found the series on Netflix and decided to give it a shot. We loved it. The new season (at least the premiere) was just as good if not better than last season. Lady Mary, we’re rooting for you.

#3-This Print.

Ever since I was younger I’ve had fascination with this former first lady. She was full of character, wisdom, and strength. And she’s sharing some wisdom with us even today. Thanks, Pinterest.

What have you been into these days?

Stay tuned for Adair’s 3 things list later today.

Chocolate Chip Cookies.

The ultimate comfort food. Warm, chocolately, gooey in the middle and crunchy on the edges. There is nothing better.

Except…when you add vanilla bean ice cream. Or if you’re feeling a little bit crazy, chocolate chip cookie dough ice cream. But, that might be a bit much? Mmmm, probably not.

This recipe is my favorite. But I learned from one of my friends in college the true secret to making your chocolate chip cookies even better: Add extra vanilla. Boy, oh boy, was she right. Don’t believe us? That might be the perfect excuse to whip some up this afternoon.

But, can I tell you a secret? Do you know what I love the most? Chocolate chip cookies without the chocolate chips. Weird I know. But man are they good. I always make a few with out the chips just for me. As my baking reward. (Because making chocolate chip cookies is so stressful.)

But don’t worry this batch isn’t for me. I am handing them out to a few lucky friends. My precious time at the Y this morning (Week 2 is never pretty) is still in the back of my head. I kinda feel sorry for the people around me.

And, yes, I have turned into one of those New Years resolution people. I like to think that makes me optimistic or just hopeful. Because I am usually the cynic and the pessimist. So, all the cynics and pessimists get to the back of the room, give me at least the month of January to prove myself. It can be done. And if resisting chocolate chip cookies (without the chocolate chips) isn’t a solid effort, I don’t know what is.

Also, on a totally different note: Happy Birthday to my favorite fashion icon, Kate Middleton. Your Alice Temperley dress at the London premiere of War Horse was stunning. Can you ship me one in my size?! Please and thank you.

Happy Monday.

Mary

sticky buns.

Sticky Buns are a gift from heaven. Ooey, gooey, sugary, cinnamon-y, (sans raisins, please!) and made of all things wonderful. They literally melt in your mouth. They also are made of everything that you aren’t supposed to eat- puff pastry, sugar, brown sugar, butter, butter, and oh, some more butter. Because of this, our family reserves these babies for the best meal of the year: Christmas Brunch. But, if we are all being honest, we would all agree that they are worth every single, sticky bite. Even our sweet Weimaraner, Willa, wanted a bite. The master, Ina Garten, aka the Barefoot Contessa, has the best (and easiest) recipe for Sticky Buns.

A special thanks to Jeremy for taking the pictures while my mom and I baked.
