i hope that you also had a lovely weekend. let us know what you did!  -mary.

new house + goofy pup named henry + the most beautiful garden roses from adair and jamie + west nashville farmer’s market + strawberries = the things that make a weekend perfect.

three things

the past three weeks have been a roller coaster. the saying, “when it rains, it pours” would be accurate for jeremy’s and my life right now.

but you know what? when things are CRAZY, you realize how good you actually have it. we have a God that never leaves us, the best little pup in the world, the kindest friends, and the most supportive family.

so after these crazy weeks, i just want to surround myself with beautiful things. and these three things are it. oh, and maybe a big bowl of vanilla bean ice cream with a reese’s peanut butter cup..

have a wonderful thursday. -m.

the sweetest illustration by danielle kroll. you must look at her blog. it makes me so happy- she is so talented.

peonies are my absolute favorite. they always brighten my day.

i want to wear my hair like this. i feel like i would look like i was trying too hard. maybe one day. have you had success with this lovely up-do?

a lovely little feature: lauren holdsworth of cactus collective

we are so excited to share with you a feature on one of our favorite blogs, cactus collective!

lauren is a college friend of adair’s. it has been so awesome to reconnect in such a fun and creative way. you will remember lauren from a little while back when she did a feature on our lovely little blog! we love lauren’s style and personality and adore her style posts and know that you will as well! so mosey on over to her fun blog and take a look around. you won’t regret it.

but before you do, here is an interview that we did with lauren to let you get to know her a little bit more.

enjoy! m & a.

M&A: We really like your blog, Cactus Collective! When did you start blogging and what was the reason that you started?

L:  Gosh, thanks! It is always such a treat when someone says that they like your hobby, your little corner of the web, so thank you! I started blogging this year – I am a total newbie. I wanted to start blogging because I wanted to create a place where people could learn about new ideas, new projects, new organizations, new whatever. My hope is that it acts as a one-stop-shop place to get inspired.

M&A: We love your style! Who are your biggest fashion influences and why?

L:  I really love fashion as an art form, so I get a lot of my style inspiration from painters and various schools of art. I love color blocking in primary colors like Piet Mondrian or trying to pull of a Parisian look I think is very Toulouse Lautrec.

M&A:  You get to live in one of the greatest cities, Austin, Texas! What are some of your favorite places to shop?

L:  Austin is known for its thrifty style, so I have gotten lucky with some great vintage shops. I especially love Bows & Arrows, Maya Star and Uncommon Objects

M&A: Spring is finally here! What are some of your Spring/ Summer 2012 favorite fashion trends? What are your must-have items?

L:  I can’t get enough of pastels this season (the Elie Saab couture line kills me!) The revival hair trends, matte pink lips, floral and geometric patterns – this season is my jam! Currently, I would put pastel pumps and fun statement pieces on my must-have list this spring.

(Lauren and her fiance, Griffin)

M&A: Life can sometimes get pretty hectic and stressful. What are your favorite ways to relax and unwind?

L:  I am a big jazz nerd, so I love coming home and listening to old records and having a glass of wine on my back porch. Sometimes the urge to un-plug is so great that I go around and turn off my phone, computer, etc.

M&A: Summer is fast approaching, which means vacations and travel! Do you have any fun trips planned? What is the one item of clothing that is essential in your suitcase this summer?

L: I am a lucky girl this summer and I get to go on a couple of fun trips! We spend some time every year at our house on the East Coast, so a giant sun hat & a big oversized button down are my summer essentials!

Thanks, Lauren! We hope to make it out to Austin soon to see you!

weekend trip!

i’m back from nyc!
what an awesome trip(for work!). so much art. so many museums. so much fun.
here are some photos from the trip!

this is the morgan hotel — the whole hotel was decorated in black and white with pops of red. and each room had an original robert mapplethorpe b&w photo! it doesn’t get much better than that.

these are just a taste of the art work we got to see! some of my favourites klimt, picasso and warhol- love his skull series!

we went to so many museum — the met, guggenheim, the neue, MoMA, storm king, the earth room, dia beacon, the whitney and tons of chelsea galleries!

and you know i had to get some cupcakes from magnolia bakery!

beautiful grand central!

and at the end of our trip we missed our flight back to waco and had to drive home, which was kind of a bummer, but we made up for it by stopping at in-n-out at 1am! ha!

strawberry pickin’

on thursday, my mom, little sister, and i went to the strawberry patch and picked 8 gallons of berries. yes, 8 gallons. my mom always makes the best strawberry jam- that everyone tries to get their hands on. 🙂

i, on the other hand, always make strawberry pie. yum, yum, yum. it’s oh so good.

this is one of my favorite times of the year. although it was three weeks early this year because of the crazy weather. here are some pictures we snapped and thought that you might enjoy taking a peek.

and also, you need to have to have this pie recipe. i am not one of those people that hides my recipes deep away in a dark, dark cavern so that no one ever knows them ever. good food is meant to be shared. enough said.

Strawberry Pie (from Betty Crocker, the miracle worker)

Oven: 425 degrees for 35-45 minutes

Ingredients: 1 cup of sugar (it’s just as good with splenda!), 5 tablespoons flour, 3/4 teaspoon cinnamon, and 4 cups strawberries, two sheets of Pillsbury crust.

(Side: You can make your own crust, but I use Pillsbury pre-packaged dough- it’s just as good and looks great. Homemade dough is not worth the tears. Trust me.)

Place the first crust neatly in the pie pan. Next mix all the ingredients together and place on the crust. Cover up the berries with the second crust. Pinch dough shut and make slits on top of the dough. (You know, just like the birds in Snow White. Haha.) Place the pie dish on a cookie sheet in case the juices bubble over the pie crust. It makes clean up a whole lot easier.

Bake for 35-45 minutes at 425 degrees and then let cool. Serve warm with a side of vanilla bean ice cream. You are welcome.

Hope this brightens your Monday. xo- Mary

PS- stay tuned for pictures and an update from Adair about her trip to New York City!
